Review : IS@K Guest House, Seoul

When I visited Korea, I was really on a tight budget. Therefore I had to opt for hostels instead of nice hotels. After I got recommendation from a friend, I opted for IS@K Guesthouse. IS@K is actually a short form for I Stay @ Korea. I paid KRW16000 per night for a dorm room which I stayed there for 3 nights.

Location

Perfectly located in Itaewon area which eases visitors to get there. It is about 5 minutes away from the nightlife of Itaewon so you don’t have to worry much about the noise. For Muslims, there are plenty of halal food outlets around Itaewon area and there’s also a mosque in Itaewon. You could take subway Line 6 and stop at either Itaewon station or Hangangjin station. The guesthouse is located exactly in between the two stations. The only setback was that it is located on the 4th floor and there’s no elevator to take you up.

Room

The dorm I stayed at is built for 6 pax but I was only sharing the first night with another Korean guy and another guy from New Zealand. The next 2 days, I was staying alone so the price that I paid was very worth it. It was clean and bed was generally comfy. There are five types of rooms available: Single room, twin room, male dorm, female dorm and mixed dorm.

Facilities

The hostel is equipped with security systems where you will be provided an access card for the main door. There’s a lounge for travelers to hangout with each other while watching tv and it could fit 6-8 people at a time. A laptop is available for guests usage while wifi is also available for free. However the toilets are co-eds and it is not attached to the room.

Staffs

The co-owner, Dukho and his manager Jae Park was indeed friendly with us from the moment that we arrived until we left. Both of them do speak good english so one don’t have to worry much about communications problem.
