Gunung Lang – scenic but poorly maintained

I was in Ipoh last weekend with my girlfriend. The week before, while I was in Vietnam, she and a few other #TravelholicAwesome members already explored some great locations around Ipoh. So this week it’s my turn to travel around Ipoh. After a brief discussion during breakfast, we still opted to check out Gunung Lang Recreational Park although MasNona, who had just been there the week before, does not recommend us to go there.

the huge sign

Before this I only saw the big Gunung Lang signage which is visible from the North-South highway just after u past the Ipoh exit. It is actually located off Jalan Kuala Kangsar but finding the place was not hard at all as I just type in Gunung Lang in my phone’s map and bingo!. Check out the map below for the exact location.

Amused by the waterfall just below the big signage area, we head straight to it as soon as we reach the place just to learn that it is actually a man-made waterfall.

The view of the limestone hill and the lake does provide a breathtaking view of the place. After a short photo session at the waterfall, we paid RM3 each at the counter and took the short boat ride across the calm lake towards the other side of the park.

the boat

The condition of the park on the other side however was disappointing. It looks like it is not well maintained. The watchtower which supposed to be the main attraction there was barricaded and closed for visitors. There are a few ‘kampung’ houses there but the conditions are not up to par.

the watchtower.. which apparently was closed at that time

There’s also a mini zoo but the animals doesn’t look like its being well taken off. The rabbits seems like it needs medication while inside the pigeon cage, besides the pigeons, there’s an old shirt, a broom and a dustpan hanging inside there. How the heck did those things get in there?

the ill-looking rabbit

From my observation, I believed this place has a huge potential to become a major tourist spot for both locals and foreigners. The location is great but the facilities and maintenance is poor. Hopefully there’s an effort by the local authorities to upgrade, maintain and promote the area.

“I was in Ipoh last weekend with my girlfriend” so sweet! hahah

tempat ni penah dtg skali je, tp tak sempat naik bot rm3 tu sbb under maintenance. kalo dorang jaga elok2 masih lagi cantik utk kita lawati. ayuhhh kita sama2 visit malaysia~

kpd yg berkenaan, sila amek serius akan hal ini!

  3. Ni gf yang mana satu pula ni? Hari tu cakap yg lain?

    *larrriiii

On a serious note, it’s saddening to see such a nice place is poorly maintained. Worse still, pity the poor animals. Perhaps a highlight to the newspapers like The Sun would help?

It was sad to see that the place was not properly maintained at this point of time. Plus, the animals was not given any medication. Kesian i tgk rabbit tue. Dah kena infection agaknya.

Gunung Lang kawasannya cantik. Tapi kawasan seberang sana memang agak kurang terjaga.

Kubur dah hampir jadi hutan dara.
