During my trips, I usually try find ways to maximize my travel experience. Recently I found one unique website that is very useful to enhance our travel experience. WithLocals.com is a marketplace where local people offer experience and their skills to travellers. The idea of the site is actually to enable a more authentic experience for tourist while enabling locals to make more money.
There are 3 types of experience offered by WithLocals which is EAT WithLocals, TOUR WithLocals and ACTIVITIES WithLocals.
EAT WithLocals
This is where you can try the authenthic local food by dining with a local family in their home. The price is often lower than the restaurants. You will not only enjoy local delicacies, you’ll also have the opportunity to experience local culture and get to know the people by sharing a meal at a family home. For example, if you’re visiting Malaysia, it’s would be much more authentic to try out the Nasi Lemak or Laksa at a local family home rather than enjoying them at at restaurant.
