Auckland, situated in the north island of New Zealand, is the largest city of the country. During my stopover in Auckland last time, I got the opportunity to visit the Auckland tower. It’s actually a telecommunications tower and at the same time an observation tower. It is 328 meters tall, (from ground to the top mast) making it the tallest building in the southern hemisphere. Like most towers in the world, it also has an observation deck for visitors to get a view of the city.
they put a glass at the lift’s floor
For the first time I was on a lift that has a glass on its floor where visitors are able to see the lift shafts while it cruise up to the observation deck. Up at the deck, we are able to observe the 360 degree view of Auckland.
I thought that only the lifts has the glass floor panel, but they also has it at a few sections in the observation deck area. It pretty much reminds me of the Oriental Pearl Tower in Shanghai where there was one floor totally made of glass and steel.
There’s a coin-operated binocular for visitors who would like to zoom in on the places of interest from up there. I did take a rest at the café at the deck area enjoying some hot chocolate and marshmallow while enjoying the view.
Adrenaline junkies should head further up from the observation deck, where there were 2 thrilling activities being offered at the tower:
Sky Jump. Sky jump can be described as Base jumping while having a wire attached to yourself. The jump only takes a mere 10-15 seconds and then u will land safely at the plaza area
this photo I took while enjoying the marshmallow at the cafe
Sky Walk. One could experience walking 190 meters off the ground, without any handrails to hold on. U will be taken to walk 360 degrees around the tower and will be able to admire the spectacular view of Auckland city.
Dare to try it?? Oh btw, I didn’t try any of these activities as my budget was not permitting me to do so. Moreover I just finished by skydiving two days earlier. If u ask me will I try it? why not, it should be fun!
