I was in Penang previously attending an event. Instead of opting to spend the night at some hotels, I choose to try out one of the backpackers place in the heart of Penang city. The place I stayed at was Red Inn Court, a boutique hostel and it is a member of the Red Inn’s hostel chains in Penang. There are actually 4 Red Inn’s in Penang, which is Red Inn Heritage, Red Inn Cabana, Red Inn Penang and also Red Inn Court. Red Inn Court is quite new as it was opened in 2011.

Location
Red Inn Court is situated in Jalan Masjid Kapitan Keling in the heart of Georgetown. I think the area is considered part of Penang’s Little India area. It is just walking distance from the other major tourist streets in the city such as the Love Lane, Muntri road and Chulia street. Among the attractions nearby are Masjid Kapitan Keling and the 200 year old Goddess of mercy temple. If you walk further, you could even reach Fort Cornwallis or enjoy some street food by the sea.

Room
There are a few types of rooms here. The male dorm, female dorm, mixed dorm and even a private room. The dorms price ranges from RM28 until RM35 and private rooms costs RM88 until RM120 depending on types and season. Oh ya, the price includes breakfast. The 4 bedded male dorm size was acceptable. Room was very clean and the bed was comfy. Like most hostels, lockers are provided and there are no attached bathrooms, it’s on sharing basis.

Facilities
You will be given an access card upon check in and that will be the key to your room. The toilets are generally clean and nicely decorated. You have like 4 showers and 3 toilets on the 1st floor so you won’t have to worry much. There’s a common area downstairs equipped with a mini library, at 42” tv with media player, a computer and you’ll also have a free wifi all over the place. You could also rent a bike with them to get you around the city.

Staffs
Staffs were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Angie, one of the staffs, was cooperative in giving us recommendations and information. My girlfriend accidentally left her brooch there when we checked out and Angie helped us to search for it and kept it for us.

Overall
It was actually my 2nd time staying in a hostel in Malaysia. I would say I was satisfied staying at this place, mainly because it was clean and it also provide me with a great ‘Peranakan’ atmosphere. So for those who are planning a trip to Penang and on a tight budget, try check out Red Inn Court. If you plan to stay here, it only can accommodates about 20 pax at one time so make sure you book early.

Greetings .
i’ve been looking the hotel in Georgetown and I found Red Inn Court is the cheapest one .
then i do the future research about this hotel and i found the hotel is belong to chinesse .
i want to know, is there any issue or problem if we (muslim students) stay at that hotel ? how about the breakfast that they prepare for us ?
thank you in advance for answering my question .
breakfast normally is just a simple breakfast.. bread, butter & jam with coffee/tea etc.. don’t worry as there are also a few restaurants nearby if you want to eat outside
