Phi Phi Island or known as Koh Phi Phi to the locals, is situated in the Andaman Sea between Phuket and Krabi in Southern Thailand. It is divided into two main islands, Koh Phi Phi Don and Koh Phi Phi Ley. Phi Phi was one of the places that were hit hard during the 2004 Tsunami. I was there recently and 7 years after of the tragedy, it appears that Phi Phi has rebuilt itself.

Most visitors to Phi Phi will surely visit Maya Bay in Phi Phi Ley, made famous by Leonardo Di Caprio’s movie The Beach. Yes it is beautiful, although not the same as before, and the place is too crowded nowadays. During high seasons, u would only see a certain portion of the beach where else most parts of the beach act as a parking spot for the long tails and speed boats.

Actually my main activity in Phi Phi was going diving. I dived at Koh Bida Nok and Palong area which is situated in the Phi Phi Ley surroundings. The water was calm and clear which allows us to spots many sea habitants. Among them are the barracudas, turtles, jellyfish and eels. The setback was I didn’t have an underwater camera with me, so there’s no underwater pictures.

For those planning to visit Koh Phi Phi, apart from doing the normal snorkeling, swimming or diving, here are a few great things that u might wanna check it out.
1) Hire a boat for a sunset tour. Long tail boats are available for hire with a price range of 350baht and above, depending on your negotiation skills. Just tell the boat captain to take u for a sunset trip. You’ll be amused by the view, if the weather permits.

2) Hike the view point for sunrise or sunset. The Phi Phi View Point is the highest point of Koh Phi Phi Don where u could view the island from an aerial view. A Hike up the hill would take about 30 minutes or u could also opt for a ‘taxi’ ride which will cost around 250baht.
3) Watch the fire show. There are a few amazing guys performing the fire shows in Phi Phi. Try to look for them at the beach area at night. Watch the video below

4) Go Cliff jumping. Adventurer will surely wanna try out this one. The best place to do this is at Koh Phi Phi Ley. The long tail captains knew the best place for u to do this activity
