Mount Tangkuban Perahu is one of the volcano in Indonesia that is still active. Situated in the West Java region, it’s about an hour drive from Bandung city. Since this time I was travelling in a large group, we went there by the tour bus. Upon reaching the mountain area, the bus had to park a few kilometers down and we had to take the charter truck to go up the mountain.
The weather was quite cold there. When we got off the bus, there were a lot of men trying to sell their souvenirs and you would have to be firm to say NO if you do not want to buy because they will desperately trying to sell you all the things they carry with them.
Once I reached the peak, we were great by another group of guys. These group of guys have horses with them and they would try to offer you a ride on the horses. Some of them even had camera’s to take your picture riding the horse and sell them to you.
After a few minutes’ walk, I could see the crater. There were 3 craters in total but the main one is called Kawah Ratu (Queen’s Crater) I was pretty excited as that was my first volcano experience. Further up you will pass through shops selling souvenirs such as t-shirts, carvings, crystal necklace and many others.
Overall it was a nice trip and I was delighted to get the chance to visit Tangkuban Perahu.
How to get there?
You can hire a driver from Bandung town. The journey takes about an hour from Bandung city
