Review: Alaaddin Hotel, Istanbul

During our 8 days visit to Turkey, we spent 4 nights in Istanbul. We decided to stay in Sultanahmet area because it is nearby to Istanbul’s major attractions. After making comparison between a few hotels, we decided to stay at the Alaaddin Hotel which was in our budget range. As it was winter and low season, we paid around 110TL per night for a double room.

Location

It took us about 30 minutes to get to the hotel via taxi from the airport. The hotel is perfectly located in Sultanahmet area and is only a few minutes’ walk to the tram station so we could easily make use of the tram service. Moreover the Hagia Sophia, The Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace and the Grand Bazaar is within 10-15 minutes walking distance.

Room

Alaaddin hotel is considered a small sized hotel. It only have 21 rooms which varies from several types including single room, double room, twin room, triple room and family room. The double room that we stayed is quite small but still acceptable in terms of size. The bed is comfortable and toilets was clean. It has a mini bar and also an LCD TV (although it’s the older version type)

Facilities

The hotel has a restaurant on the top floor which also comes with a roof terrace on the rooftop. You can enjoy your breakfast with the view of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Bosphorus Straits. Oh ya, the wi-fi coverage is also very good because they have a router on every floor. Apart from that, there were no other facilities available.

Food

We had our daily breakfast at the restaurant on the top floor. It serves Turkish breakfast which has many varieties including bread, salad, eggs, cheese, pastries, soup and others. The food was nice.

Staffs

Staffs were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. They provide us a lot of useful informations regarding the food and also directions to places. One of them, Mohamed also help us to post the postcard as we couldn’t find any postbox.
