Things to do around Perth city

Perth is the capital city and also the largest city in Western Australia. Perth is pretty much a quiet and peaceful city compared to other major cities in Australia such as Sydney and Melbourne. Most of the activities here are more towards nature-related. The first time I set my foot in Perth was 5 years ago and it was winter at that time. I was there for nearly a month and yeah it was fun.

Earlier this year I found myself back to the city but this time bringing along a few friends to explore the city. We were quite unlucky because during our visit, Perth and its neighboring areas were hit by a heat-wave where temperatures rose up to 43 degree Celsius at certain point of time. But still, the trip was still a pleasant journey and we did enjoy ourselves.

Here are a few places and activities you might wanna check out if you happen to be in Perth City.

1)      Kings Park

One of the most famous parks around Perth city. You could get a nice outlook of the city from here. Even the night view offers a great sight of the city.

2)      Feed the kangaroos and touch the Koala’s

Visit the Caversham wildlife park which is situated inside the Whiteman Park area.  Here the kangaroos are very tame and u could feed them easily. There’s also plenty of other wildlife such as Koala’s, Wallabies, Tasmanian Devil and others. Make sure u check the show times as there will be a few shows during the day.  Tickets were priced at AUD$23 for adults. Check out my post about Caversham Wildlife Park here.

3)      Aquarium of Western Australia (AQWA)

Known as the largest aquarium in WA, you could explore the 12,000km WA’s coastline in just an hour. There are hundreds of creatures living in WA’s coastline being exhibit here.  Check out my post about AQWA here. Check out my post about AQWA here.

4)      Pluck the fresh fruits yourself

Depending on the season you’re going, there are plenty of fruit orchards nearby Perth city that u can visit and pluck the fruits. Grapes are available during summer & autumn while strawberries are only available during spring & summer.  Check out the seasonal fruit guides here.

5)      Feed the wild birds.

There are a few parks that have a lot of birds for you to feed. I’ve been to this one park in Joondalup, northern suburb of Perth and there were lots of pigeons around. Nevertheless, please feed them bird food and not human food!

6)      Watch the beautiful sunset by the beach

You could enjoy a great sunset at the coastline. There are plenty of nice beaches for you to hangout while enjoying the sunset. Among the areas are city beach, Scarborough beach and Hillary’s harbor.

7)      Explore Fremantle, the harbor city

Many thought that Fremantle is a suburb of Perth but it’s actually a city on its own.  Among the major attractions in this city is the Fremantle market and the Fremantle prison tour. You could also catch a ferry to get you to Rottnest Island from here. Check out my post about things to do in Fremantle here. Check out my post about Fremantle here.

8)      Shop at Harbor Town

This is a factory outlet place where most branded items are available at a reduced price. Items ranging from clothes, shoes, children’s apparel and perfumes are obtainable here.

9)      Souvenirs maybe?.

If you want to buy souvenirs for your friends, you might wanna check out the E-shed market in Fremantle. The price here is much lower than you can find in the city and Fremantle market. However, there’s another place, going to the shop owner’s warehouse itself in the suburb area of Malaga.

10)   Explore the city center

Check out the Swan Bells by the Swan river nearby the city center. Hay street and Murray street is the place to be for shopaholics. There are also a few old buildings that would delight photographers such as the Government House, St George’s Cathredal and the Old Perth Boys School.

I’m just listing out the activities around the city and it’s outskirt here. There are lots more area to explore in the Western Australia region such as the Pinnacles in Cervantes, going sandboarding in Lancelin, the wave rock in Hyden or you could also head south towards Augusta or even go crabbing in Mandurah.

    Hi Danial

Enjoyed your blog on Perth but you left us out! We operate a range of cruises to swim with wild dolphins, see Australian sea lions and get up close to little penguins- the smallest species of penguin in the world! We’re only 45 minutes south of Perth so next time you’re here email me at aaron@dolphins.com.au and I’ll organize some tickets for you to Penguin Island.

I love my trip to Australia recently, but not to this part of Australia anyway. Maybe I should go to these places you blog about in future. Looks interesting!
