Feeding the kangaroos at Caversham Wildlife Park

On my 2nd day in Perth, Australia, I visited the Caversham Wildlife Park. This wildlife park is situated inside the Whiteman Park area, about 30 minutes away from Perth City. The place is more like a petting zoo where you could play, feed and take photos with the animals. It was actually my 2nd time being at the place. This time, the summer heat was quite extreme, even the animals were looking for a shed.

We arrived there at 10am and we were charged AUD23 per pax for the standard adult entrance fee. Student rates are at AUD16 but bear in mind it only accepts Western Australia student cards. As soon as we enter the park, we head straight for the kangaroos area. A bit of a wrong decision it was, as we should have headed towards Molly’s farm because the farm show is at 10am. Guess what we missed, a sheep shearing demonstration, bottle feeding the lambs and also milking the cow session.

Lesson learned, next time read the brochure first Dan. Oh well, back at the kangaroo’s area, we enjoyed feeding the kangaroos and wallabies there. There were lots of kangaroos wandering around. Most of them are tame and gentle so u don’t have to worry much about them. The foods are supplied in a bucket in the area for visitors to feed them.

Next stop was the Meet the wombat and friends show. This show starts at 11am, 2pm & 3.45pm daily. It is where the staffs bring out the animals for visitors to have a closer look at. The wombat has grown a little bigger than it was when I first saw it in 2007. Among other animals that were brought out are the Carpet Python, Brushtail Possum, Red Kangaroo, Gang Gang Cokcatoo and a few others.

After taking photos with the animals, we walked around the park to see all the other animals in the park. Among them are the Casowary, a few type of owls, the Quokka and the black Swans. There’s also a few Tasmanian Devils being exhibit here. It reminds me of the Taz in Looney Tunes which was one of my favorite cartoon characters during my younger years.

Our last stop was at the Koala Encounter. As usual, the Koala’s are always asleep. The staff told us that Koala’s usually sleeps around 20 hours a day but that didn’t stop us to take photos with them. To cope with the extreme heat, the park uses the patio mist sytem sprinklers at the Koala’s place to cool down the temperatures.

this one is the only one that is awake at that time

For me if you’re visiting Perth, Caversham Wildlife Park is a must go. The only place where you can hop around with the kangaroos side by side. It’s worth every penny you spent for the entrance fee.

Cool, man. I didn’t realise there is such place in Australia. I thought all kangaroos are either running wild or in zoos. Guess I need to include Caversham Wildlife Park if I were to go to Australia.

have you been to Sydney’s Wild Life? If you have, which one is better? Perth’s Caversham or Sydney’s Wild Life? I want a close encounter with the animals, feeding them, petting & possibly hugging them (though I read hugging is prohibited). I need to decide whether to go to Perth or Sydney…
