Have you ever wonder how’s life in prison would be? If you feel like experiencing the prison life, get yourself arrested at the Old Melbourne Gaol. It is an old prison which is now open to visitors whom would like to know how’s life gonna be in prison.

All visitors will be initially ‘arrested’ at the City Watchhouse next door and will be separated by gender. We were soon brought up to the cell area where a security check took place. Next, we were estranged into different cells and they will cut off the lights just to let you feel how it is in a dark cell.

There is also one special cell for those who have mental problems where it is surrounded by fabric padded wall. This was the first time I ever been in a room like this. Normally I only watched it on tv.

We were then brought to the main building of the gaol which has a 3 tiers of cells with catwalks on the upper floors. In most of the cells there are writings and exhibits which tells the visitors about the history of the building and inmates.

We also passed through the hanging site where the famous inmate Ned Kelly was hanged in 1880. We spent about an hour in the prison taking pictures and reading about the history of the place.
